Sun Dru-thi's debut record will be released on the 23th of april 2011.
and to celebrate there will be an unmissable release party and gig at No Fun (viale palmanova 329/4 udine - italy) with Mig 29 Over Disneyland.
Sun Dru-thi's much awaited debut record to come out soon:
from the misty and pagan lands of north-east italy comes Sun Dru-thi, an indie-rock veteran who saw the proverbial light the day he was given a bunch of cracked softsynths "to have fun with". from string bending to virtual knob turning - his craze for the digital realm rocketed his ambition for an opus magnum of pure electro-metal bliss - a sonic jihad of hard kicks, square distortions and malignant bass lines. the inevitable need to find the right henchmen for his planned live performances brought about like-minded drummer J-am and bass player L, exquisitely adding gasoline to the already out of control drag race. a dusk to dawn concept album, it immediately captured our imagination with its lucid insanity and the emotional charge of this openly auto biographical attempt to make sense of an otherwise hazy reality. amsterdam sex parlors and openair techno raves, golden cages and long black snakes, with feverish lust, drug-filled euphoria and desperation Sun Dru-thi gives in to the inevitable in a long, long night to remember. remarkable is the song "il giardino dei giochi di Hassan" a musical adaptation in italian of William Burroughs' sickest passage in his Naked Lunch: Hassan's rumpus room. Sun Dru-thi's vocals at times recall a Peter Murphy locked up in a basement with a FruityLoops freak and a bunch of stoners. terrific. definitely not for the faint-hearted - we believe this is an extraordinary piece of work and we're proud of this release.
Heavy Candies:
right at the highest peak of the electroclash hyperbole in 2002, there was an electronic outfit that couldn't care less about cheap sounding Casio keyboards and samples being reduced to 8-bit quality. as a matter of fact, these guys learnt the ways of electronic music the hard way: manuals, Kraftwerk, MIDI and reckless pot smoking to keep focused. but London's duo Heavy Candies grew up in the mighty days of Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Prodigy therefore you can be assured to find a poisoned edge in their music. "Carolyn Jones, see her fly" is the title of their debut EP, an homage to the actress who will be forever remembered for her role as Morticia in the 60's sitcom series the Addams Family. the opening tune "from a distance" will leave you puzzled - sounds like a dance floor anthem at first but as soon as some rather mean samples make an entry and you pay attention to the lyrics you'll immediately detect the subtle angst and morbid twist of this electro-pop anti-song. and there you go, just in case you had some doubts, "choose me" comes next with its distorted kicks, speed garage bass lines and nasty guitars - a celebration to drugs and alcohol fuelled one night stands. the closing song "walk my dreams" doesn't get any darker than this... eerie from the start, the song progresses further into lackluster territories only to explode at the end with a superb outburst of angst. well, Heavy Candies are definitely not your average electroclash duo.
farewell to Headless
05.08.06 NME's review of Headless live at New Cross Inn, London:
four
punk rock valkyries in vintage baby-doll dresses, London's Headless
are proof that a lack of musical virtuosity is no barrier when combined
with an unquenchable passion for resurrecting rock's grunge diaries.
Mining Sonic Youth's art noise, Holes pretty/ravaged volume dynamics
and Babes In Toyland's femme-rock rage as their well-worn inspirations,
Headless' crowning glory can be found in Chrissie, their living, screaming
firebrand of a frontwoman. Some evenings she's to be found rolling
around the stage in a primal witch-rock trance, but tonight she's
happy to stay static in front of the mic stand, letting her retching
guttural snarl do the shouting. "Sway" is all lumbering
power chords, crashing hi-hats and throat-ripping Cobain catharsis,
while future single "Stampede" sounds like one of Polly
Jean Harvey's eerie midnight tales being soundtracked by metal goliaths
Black Sabbath. In short, it's the sort of raw, gnashing noise, we
could easily, um, lose our heads over. boom, tish! Krissi Murison, NME
28.05.06 quintessential fashion/music magazine Dazed and Confused features
our favorite band Headless:
when
one and all in the music industry are losing their heads, here's four
girls who aren't. visceral,
spontaneous and kooky are all justifiably applicable descriptions,
yet only begin to go some way to describing all-girl north london
rock'n'roll racketeers Headless. there is certainly nothing ordinary
about these girls, starting with that name. "it's from return
to Oz", states a demonically grinning Chrissie Clarke, the
band's singer, "after the headless princess. she had a room full
of heads in jars, one for each mood. she was genuinely scary, man!".
Clare James-Clare on bass, Nell Eu on drums and Camille Boland-Benett
back up Ms Clarke. they met, like many bands, through a mutual appreciation
of live music and a desire to hear DJ's choice cuts "that we
actually liked". and so it was the famously homoerotic london-based
Club Motherfucker played host to not only their drunken handshakes
and future plans, but also to their disastrous, yet now legendary
first gig. "we performed two songs and they pulled the plug",
laments Camille. "we were totally gutted, all our friends were
there, but hey we had only ever had one practice". it turns out
that the aforementioned "practice" took place on the day
of the gig with a severely jetlagged Nell, ironically only just "returning
from Oz! i flew in from australia and hooked up with Chrissie and
Camille, Clare wasn't even there!", and with one member - who
was chosen to remain anonymous - suffering from the backlash of a
"fucking bad mushroom trip". so, their virgin gig may have
been ramshackle, but it humiliated the girls en ought to set the precedent
for what was to ensue. the hellbent drive to "get good"
involved rehearsing mercilessly, listening attentively to the bands
that inspired them to pick up instruments in the first place - Sonic
Youth, The Cramps, QOTSA and early Hole - and committing to a grueling
gig schedule that has taken them up and down the country ensuring
that Headless has become an incredibly tight "combat rock"
unit. affirmative action paid off and within the space of a few months,
they have gained a devoted following, released their pounding debut
single "Sway", and landed the enviable support slot for
Test Icicles' final farewell gig last month. so what could possibly
be the next pitstop over the horizon? "we want to play festivals,
especially Fuji Rock, we want to have luxury riders, find Tad, support
the Butthole Surfers and have a Headless private jet". perhaps
the mushrooms are still kicking in? perhaps not.
